Biography
Eliza Van Lear was born on February 9, 1790, in Washington County, Maryland. She was the daughter of Matthew Van Lear and Mary Irwin.
At the age of 19, Eliza married Michael Augustus Finley on October 3, 1809, in Mercersburg, Franklin, Pennsylvania when he was 23. (Church documents locate the wedding in Mercersburg, state documents locate it in Washington County, Maryland).[1][2][3] (Michael's brother John married Eliza's twin sister Mary in 1815). They had no children.
According to a Finley family history, Eliza died about 1809 (shortly after they were married).[4] (Find a Grave confuses Eliza with her twin sister Mary who died in 1818; the gravestone clearly says Mary, but the Find a Grave profile conflates the two names as 'Mary Elizabeth Van Lear' and links the profile to Michael Finley, not John Finley).
